winterfest returns

With two weeks to go, the weather has been cooperating with plans to host the eighth annual Sundance Winter Festival. As the snow continues to pile up, the chances are good that there will be plenty to build the course on Main Street for February 15.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. – unless you are planning to take part in the ski joring, when you can register between 7 and 9 a.m. at City Hall or the night before from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Longhorn Saloon.

The ski-joring will be split into five divisions this year: snowboard only, female snowboarders and skiers over the age of 18, skiers under the age of 34, skiers over the age of 35 and the open division for ages 18 plus.

Each round will include a long and short round. Calcuttas will take place between the long and short rounds.

The course will be built the day before the event down the center of Main Street.

The festival is also expected to include an art show, live entertainment at the bars and food vendors, as well as drink specials throughout the town.

Purchase an open container wristband from City Hall or Vilas Pharmacy until 2 p.m. on the day to sup-port the event.

This year, the event will include a photo contest, which can be shared on social media using the hashtag #SundanceWinterFestival.

Email your top three shots to [email protected] before February 24. Voting will begin on February 27 and there will be Sundance Bucks prizes for the top three photos.
