Alice Queen

After a long stay at Rapid City Hospice House, Alice Queen took her final walk to be with the Lord on January 18, 2025.

Alice was born on September 29, 1929 to Frank and Dorsey Burke in Sturgis, South Dakota. She was raised in Vale, South Dakota and went to school there.

She later met her first husband, William Roemerman. They were blessed with eight children. Her place in the house was in the kitchen.

She loved to cook and always was trying new recipes – some good and some, not so good. She always took great pleasure in cooking for her family and friends.

Later on in life, she cooked for several years at Rapid City Boys Club, serving lunch and snacks. She really enjoyed working with the boys.

Alice met her second husband, Duane Queen, at a dance. They enjoyed going dancing on Saturday nights and spend a lot of time doing this. They were married on August 31, 1973 and were married for 44 wonder years on the ranch.

While living on the ranch, she did a lot of cooking, especially when branding time came. She helped with milking the dairy cows.

Not matter what needed to be done, whether milking, following Duane in a vehicle on the ranch, or whatever help was needed, she always did it without complaining. Her favorite story was when Duane would leave for a week or two to go hunting. She would then take care of all the milking.

She lived on the ranch until September of 2019 after the passing of her husband in 2018. She moved to Rapid City to live with her daughter, remaining there until her passing.

She also worked for Crook County hospital for 25 years. Sonny and she traveled in their earlier years. She also was a great fan of Dr. Robert Schuller, faithfully listening to his broadcasts and was even able to travel to see the Crystal Cathedral.

She is survived by her son, Daniel Roemerman, of North Carolina; her daughter, Rachel Roemerman, of Rapid City; her sisters, Rose Tax, of Rapid City and Kathy Glaze of Titusville, Florida; her grandson, Bill (Candi) Gilles of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dorsey Burke; her husband, Duane Queen; six children, Rags Roemerman, Leon Roemerman, Beatrice Bingham, Vivian Gilles, Liz Levitt and Pam Roemerman; her sisters, Marian (Ray) Young, Zada (Ralph) Dahlberg and Darlene (Buddy) Halbmaier; her grandson, Michael Ray; her granddaughter, Sissy Frizzel; her niece, Yogi Young; her daughter-in-law, Judy Roemerman; her first husband, William Roemerman; her brother-in-law, Bob Queen; and sister-in-law, Lois Perino.

She touched many peoples' lives as a teacher, mentor and a friend. She was loved by all and will be missed by all who loved her. God bless.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, January 24, at Kirk Funeral Home, in Rapid City. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday at Kirk Funeral Home, with burial to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery.
