Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
There may be a spring in your step, but spring certainly won’t yet be in the air when runners take their marks for the chilliest run of the year.
Sundance’s traditionally bracing start to Superbowl Sunday will be taking place this year on February 9, and registration is now open for early birds who want to secure a commemorative t-shirt or hoodie to prove you braved the cold.
As always, a pancake breakfast will be served before you bundle up in your scarves and mittens. Runners and walkers can enjoy a warm meal from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m.
Walkers will start the four-mile race at 8 a.m., with runners following an hour later. The starting and fin-ishing lines are both located at Sundance High School.
“The route is the same as last year, starting and ending at Sundance High School. Erin and Trev Fiedler are our course record holders for the running portion: Erin at 26 minutes and 51 seconds for the ladies and Trev at 27:22 for the men,” says co-organizer Ann Marie Mickle.
Prizes will be awarded to the top two runners in each age group, as well as to the overall male and fe-male, best costume and best costume runner-up. Door prizes will also be awarded.
“We encourage costumes for both the walk and run, though they are not required,” says Mickle.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the Sundance High School Cross Country Team and the Student Council.
“The students greatly appreciate everyone’s support of this event,” says Mickle.
To register, visit raceentry.com/freeze-your-fanny-sundance-runwalk/race-information before January 26 to make sure you receive your t-shirt or hoodie. Registration will remain open until February 8.
“’Day of’ registration will also be available, starting at 7 a.m., but the commemorative long sleeve t-shirt or hoodie won't be available for registrations after January 26,” says Mickle.
“For those who prefer to register in-person rather than online, they can do that at the Crook County School District Central Office during the building’s office hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays.) A personal check or exact change will be needed for in-person signups.”
