Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
Marion Elizabeth Humpert, of Sundance, Wyoming, passed away on December 16, 2024 at Crook County Hospital in Sundance.
Marion was born on January 18, 1939 in Amarillo Texas. She moved at a very young age to Derby, Colorado, where she grew up the eldest of five children. She graduated from Adams City High School in 1956 and began college at the University of Colorado, Boulder. In October 1957 she met the love of her life, Robert Clay Humpert, at a dance sponsored by the veteran's organization at the University of Colorado. They dated regularly, were engaged in March the following year, and married in April of 1958. Bob and Marion moved to Denver and both worked clerical jobs full time while attending night school. Marion finished most of her junior year and continued to work at the First National Bank of Denver as a teller; Bob graduated from the University of Colorado in January 1962 and got a job as an accountant for Chevron Corporation.
Marion worked at the bank until the birth of her son, Donald Eric, when she switched careers to being a full-time homemaker in October of 1965. Bob and Marion adopted their infant daughter Jennifer Lynn, in early 1969. Marion raised Don and Jen while supporting Bob wherever his career with Chevron took them. They move to New York in 1969, then to Europe a year later. They lived in Belgium and Germany for a total of six years before returning to the United States, where they settled in the San Francisco Bay area. In 1984 Bob left Chevron, and in 1987 Bob and Marion returned to Colorado. They built their "dream house" south of Castle Rock and lived there for the next 29 years. In Colorado, Bob returned to his roots in ranching while Marion worked part-time as a Certified Nurse's Aide. With old age and various health issues catching up to them, Bob and Marion moved to Colombia, Maryland, to live with Don and his wife Judi in October of 2016. Bob passed away in August of 2019. Marion continued to live with Don and Judi, accompanying them to their new home in Sundance in the fall of 2022.
Marion enjoyed reading for most of her life and could usually be found with a book nearby. She was known for her gentle disposition and quick wit. In her later years she passed the time watching sitcoms and classic comedy on television. She expressed gratitude and love for her family every day. Church service was a highlight of her week; she enjoyed worship with the Black Hills Cowboy Church, watching online when she could no longer attend in person.
Marion is survived by her brothers, David Farnsworth, Jim Farnsworth and Steve Farnsworth; her children, Don Humpert and Jen Donahue; five grandchildren, Brad Humpert, Kimberly Lynch, Angela Humpert, Aidan Donahue and Mac Donahue; and ten great-grandchildren. Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Humpert; her parents, Lloyd W. and Marion W. Farnsworth; her sister, Virginia Anne Farnsworth; and a grandson, Tanner Clay Donahue. Marion will be interred with her late husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, in spring of 2025 (specific date to be determined).
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance.
