New Haven was the scene of a killing on election day when "Scootem" Bill Osgood fatally stabbed Jimmie Storm during a row over property interests. Both men were stockraisers of that vicinity. They had engaged in a fight some time previously, and on Tuesday they met again for the first time since that trouble. Words led to blows, and during the heat of the fight it is alleged that Osgood pulled a knife. Storm died from the effects of a cut across the throat, and was also cut in the breast. Sheriff Zimmerschied left here at noon, accompanied by Attorney Me-Guckin and Coroner Roberts, and after the inquest brought Osgood to Sundance. The accused man had gone to his home twenty-five miles from New Haven, and was found there by officers. Jim Storm is spoken of by those who know him as a quiet, peaceful man and his violent death is a shock to hundreds of friends.

Tragedy marked the 1949 hunting season in Crook County Saturday as Russell E. Bernd, 29, of Sundance, was killed by a stray bullet while hunting near the top of Grand Canyon about 15 miles east of Sundance. The accident occurred about 5:10 p.m. He was found by his brother, Harold and brother-in-law, Wayne Kipp, both of Sun-dance. Bernd was instantly killed and his death was the first hunting fatality in the Black Hills area this season. The three men were driving i through the canyon when they spotted a herd of deer. Bernd told his brother, Harold and Kipp to get out and that he would drive on past the herd and wait for them in the car. He was later found out of the car. It is not known why he got out of the car or from where the shot came. The area was crowded with hunters at the time of the accident. Military rites were held for Bernd, a veteran of over three years in the Army Air Corps, Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Legion hall in Sundance.

The Sundance city council at its regular meeting Monday night agreed to sponsor the recently-formed Sundance Senior Citizens Center. Several officers and directors of the new group attended the council session and asked for city sponsorship and some financial help for the program. Representing the group at the meeting were Mrs. Dorothea Hindman, chairman; George Watts, vice chairman; secretary Margaret Beagle; and director Kenneth Montgomery. Mrs. Hindman outlined the needs of the senior citizens center and said the group expects to carry its own load but does need some funds to get going. Representatives of the new group said possibly $500 might be needed but Montgomery told the council that the amount of money needed from the city wouldn't be known until the center has carried out its membership drive.
