Sundance State Bank breaks ground on Spearfish branch

Sundance State Bank has officially started construction on its new full-service branch in Spearfish's Village at Creekside development, which will offer the full range of banking services.

"At Sundance State Bank, our focus is on providing exceptional, personalized customer service by fostering and strengthening relationships with all our customers, employees, and stakeholders," said Jerome Greger, vice president of the Spearfish loan production office.

Sundance State Bank has been serving northeastern Wyoming since 1895, when the bank first opened in downtown Sundance. After 129 years, it remains a locally owned, family business.

In 2014, the bank expanded by opening a Loan Production Office in Spearfish, followed by another in Hulett, WY, in 2024. They now have a team of 28 staff members across the three locations.

"Over the years, we have had so many customers driving to Sundance to work with us that, in 2014, Sundance State Bank opened a Loan Production Office in Spearfish. Our growing customer base in the Spearfish region made it a logical decision to plan for further expansion in a growing market. Spearfish has been a great fit for our style of banking, and we look forward to continuing to build relationships," commented Andy Miller, Sundance State Bank president.

Lloyd Construction is serving as the general contractor on the project. During the design process, "our focus was to create efficiency for the staff as well as ease for the customer," Greger added.

The 6336-square-foot building is intended to complement the surrounding planned development.

"This location formerly was a ranch owned by Joseph Meyers, who raised horses, donkeys and camels here to support his performances of the Passion play," said Donnie Hambek, director of project development for Lloyd Companies.

The growing team will also build on the bank's strong history of community involvement in the area. In 2023, staff dedicated nearly 1000 hours to more than 40 non-profit organizations in Crook and Lawrence Counties.

The branch is scheduled to open in the summer of 2025.
