A Sundance woman has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly pulling a gun on a male party during an argument.
On September 28 at around 5:40 p.m., a Crook County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a report of a female involved in a domestic who was pointing a firearm at another person.
When the deputy arrived at the residence, he spoke with Annie Groves, who explained that she had been arguing with a male and some items got broken. However, she allegedly said nothing physical happened between them.
According to court reports, Groves said that she and the male had both been drinking. Groves denied having a gun out during the argument.
However, the minor who reported the incident allegedly said that she did have a gun in her hand and that he heard her “cock” the gun while yelling at the male subject. The minor stated that he told Groves he would call law enforcement and did so from another room before leaving the premises.
The male party was then interviewed; he stated that he had left the premises to purchase cigarettes and remove himself from the argument. He corroborated the story that there had been an argument and some items were broken, and also said that Groves had pointed a handgun at his face.
The deputy asked the male party if he thought Groves was going to shoot him; the male allegedly said that, when someone points a gun at you, that’s what you expect is going to happen. The male stated that it was shortly after this occurred that he left the premises.
The deputy spoke with Groves again and was given permission to retrieve the gun. He did not locate a magazine or ammunition for it and Groves allegedly stated that it was never loaded and she does not have a magazine for it.
Groves has been charged with aggravated assault and battery (threat to use a drawn deadly weapon), a felony carrying a maximum penalty of ten years of incarceration, a $10,000 fine or both.
She also faces a misdemeanor charge of interference with emergency calls.
