Cross country hosts Sundance Invitational

The Sundance cross country team hosted the Sundance Invitational on Friday morning. This invitational was smaller, featuring only two races and three teams, as runners from Sundance, Wright and Moorcroft raced for the top spots.

Angel Villegas set the pace for the Bulldog runners in the boys' varsity race, crossing the line in second place with a time of 20:23. Holden Ayer and Kyten Johnson were right behind Villegas, finishing in third and fourth place, with less than 30 seconds separating them.

Rylan Ashiem and Jager McLaughlin rounded out the varsity Bulldog boys with another close finish. Ashiem crossed the line at 25:11.19 while McLauglin gave him some friendly competition, finishing at 25:11.63.

The girls' varsity race had one Bulldog runner, Maddison Neiman, who came in third place with the time of 27:04 on the challenging course.

The Bulldogs had a full team in both the boys' and girls' divisions at the junior high level. Mason Moeller set the pace in this race finishing in first with a time of 12:33.

Nolan Gaskin and Tyce Erikson and Trapper Idler were on each other's heels, finishing with times of 13:02, 13:25, and 13:29 respectively. And CJ Koep rounded out the JH boys crossing the line at 14:52.

The junior high girls also had five Bulldog runners. Shae Crago was the first to cross the line for the Bulldogs, finishing in second place with a time of 13:12. Eva Stark and Remington Johnson followed, taking third and fourth place respectively. Taylor Ashiem and Trinity Finn completed the JH team finishing in sixth and seventh place.

Sundance coach Ann Marie Mickle reflected on the meet with the following: "The weather was perfect for racing. Several runners came within a few seconds of PRs, even on this very challenging course. That tells me that the effort runners put forth throughout the week is paying off. In addition, it was a huge encouragement to the team to have so many Sundance students and parents come out to cheer them on."

The cross country team will be running in Glenrock this week at the Glenrock High School Invitational.
