The 135th annual meeting of the Society of Black Hills Pioneers will be held Sept. 7 at the St. Francis of Assisi Church Hall, 1049 Howard Street in Sturgis, SD.
Kelli Kissack, Spearfish, SD will present the program “Write a book, a story you want to write.” Kelli is a writer, photographer, podcaster, interviewer, publisher and an equine agent. She will inspire the audience to work on ancestor stories or their life stories.
The schedule for the day is 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. – registration and social time, 11:15 to noon – meeting, noon – lunch with program to follow. Cost is $15 for lunch. You can attend program without the lunch.

The society is open to members who are direct descendants or their spouses of people who arrived in the Black Hills by the time of the 1890 census. The counties included are Butte, Lawrence, Pennington, Custer and Fall River in South Dakota and Weston and Crook counties in Wyoming.
Life membership is $150 plus the $2 initial fee. Regular memberships are $12, dues are $10 yearly. Membership may be reinstated by paying dues $20. Membership application by contacting Chris Maupin.
The society have a float in the Days of ’76 parade and help with cemetery work within an established cemetery and other historical work. The have records of all the annual meeting dates back to the first meeting in Deadwood in 1889.
