Between 300 and 400 new Chinese pheasants will soon make their homes in the fields of Crook County. Dominic Feeley of the Redwater Soil Conservation district announced this week that the birds soon would be planted in the county. The planting sites have yet to be determined. The birds are being made available to the county by the state game and fish commission and are coming from the state hatchery at Sheridan. The birds should arrive late this week or next. Mr. Feeley said that the future plantings of pheasants in the county depend upon the results of this planting. Previous plantings in this area have met with little success because of poaching activities and adverse weather conditions.
"Parade" will again be one of the by-words of the Crook County fair. A parade will be given through the streets of Sundance Saturday, August 21, starting at 11 a.m. Mrs. Iris Hughes, chairman of the fair parade committee, said that 18 or 19 floats will appear the parade. The floats will be sponsored by civic, commercial and agricultural organizations. Mrs. Hughes said that an important change in the parade will be made this year. She declared that no factory-made float will be allowed to compete for the prizes in the parade.

The Turf Bar was evacuated on Wednesday, August 11, at about 3:30 in the afternoon after a bomb threat was reported to the Spearfish Police Department, who in turn notified the Sundance Police Department. According to manager Nancy Redinger, Turf patrons were good sports about waiting outside while law enforcement officials searched the premises for the alleged bomb. Nothing was found during the search.
