Peek at the Past

A daring bank holdup was staged at Lavoye last Saturday when two men entered at noon, held up the bank force and got away with $3000 in loot. The men were amateurs and came to grief Immediately. A gun was left on the counter and Cashier Corey opened fire with it, which aroused the town. One of the bandits was captured in a few minutes with some of the money taken. He proved to be John Mundell of Upton, and it was said that his partner is also a well-known Upton man, but so far has eluded the officers.

Mr. and Mrs. John Davis were in from Tower Monday on a business trip. Mr. Davis informs us that he has everything about ready to open his lunoh room at the Tower and will put in a filling station later on. He has sold his home ranch in the Buttes and will devote all his time to the Tower tourists in summer, and the sawmill during the winter.

Logan Brimmer has been appointed permanent night marshal for Sundance. Brimmer’s appointment was announced this week by Mayor C. D. Roberts. Brimmer succeeds Paul Yeoman at the post. According to Mayor Roberts, Yeoman had taken the post on a temporary basis until the city could hire a permanent marshal. The new marshal took over his duties, August 4.

Something new has been added in Sundance, after a long delay. A combination stop-caution light has been hung above the intersection of Third Street and U. S. Highway 14. The work on the light was completed Monday by a REA crew. The light will control traffic entering the highway from Third Street and warn drivers on the highway of Sundance business district traffic.
