If travel to Gillette is on your agenda during the week of the International Pathfinder Camporee, a new website can help you navigate the closures and disruptions that the huge event will cause.
The City of Gillette has launched informgillette.com, a site that contains numerous resources for the public to avoid disruption and inconvenience throughout the week.
The Camporee itself is a closed event sponsored by the Seventh Day Adventist Church for 60,000 kids from around the world and will take place from August 5 to 10. Most activities will take place at the Camp-plex, but offsite activities will occur throughout the area.
The site details road and facility closures, such as the portions, Garner Lake Road and Destination Drive of Boxelder Road that will be closed throughout the event. Camporee attendees will be visiting Gillette locations during their trip, such as the Pronghorn Center.
The website also offers information and tips for businesses in the area that may welcome Camporee guests. In Crook County, this is a possibility before and after the event as attendees travel, and also during the event as families who accompanied their child to Camporee take advantage of the chance to sightsee.
For example, most attendees do not drink alcohol or caffeine or eat meat, fish or dairy products, while they do eat fruits, vegetables, legumes and beans. Tips include preparing for a large quantity of food at breakfast buffets; ordering non-pork breakfast items; preparing a vegan Camporee menu; and being ready for lots of different languages.
The public is also invited to join the campers on August 4 at the Cam-plex for a 7:30 p.m. performance of the Story of Moses, a live musical. The free event is attendees’ “way of saying thank you to the community for being our hosts”.
Tickets are not required and free parking will be available behind the Arbuckle Lodge Hotel.
“The motivation to offer this community night was because so many individuals from the community were asking to attend the mainstage program. We hope the community enjoys this free, world-class presentation,” said Ron Whitehead, executive director of the International Pathfinder Camporee.
