May 22, 1924

The dense smoke screen that settled over this region last week was caused by numerous forest fires in Montana, Thursday a new blaze swept the Cabinet forest against efforts of 80 fighters, while sixteen fires burned in the Kootenai with hundreds trying to get them under control.

Miss Flora Folden motored to Lead Thursday and concluded negotiations for a new Studebaker coupe.

May 16, 1949

The Warren’s Peak lookout station was officially reopened Monday according to the announcement of George Gorsuch, ranger of the Black Hills National Forest stationed at Sundance. The lookout will serve portions of the Spearfish and Limestone districts as well as the Bear Lodge mountains. The station will be manned by Maurice Classick. Classick’s alternate will be Mrs. Classick. Gorsuch said that the station has been equipped with shortwave FM radio facilities. Thei lookout will be a key station of the national forest service in this area.

Contract for construction of the road between Hulett and Aladdin was let by the Wyoming State Highway commission at a meeting held, May 12, in Cheyenne. C. D. Roberts, commission member from. Sundance, reported that the contract had been awarded to the Inland Construction Co. of Omaha, Nebr. The company had submitted the lowest bid on the project, $45,896. The project will cover 9.7 miles of highway between the two Crook County towns. Oiled road will be constructed. Roberts said that construction on the project would begin soon and was expected to be completed this summer.

May 16, 1974

Two Sundance High School juniors, Andrea Lee and Debbie Morris, have ten elected as delegates to the 1974 American Legion Auxiliary Girls State. The event will be held in Laramie. Miss Lee is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Lee, and Miss Morris is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Morris. Named as first alternate was Wanda Hejde, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hejde, Aladdin. Jerri Pridgeon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Pridgeon, Beulah, is second alternate.

Eating peach pie at the Log Cabin is like going home – it’s a familiar memory which will continue under the new ownership of Travis Richards, who purchased the Sundance business from Peggy and Larry Warner on May 21. The Warners hired Richards as a dishwasher when he was in the seventh grade; he became a cook’s helper at fifteen and continued working through his college days.
