Boys take win over Wolves
Girls
The Sundance Lady Bulldogs closed the regular season on the road and with two more wins as they defeated the Moorcroft Wolves and Tongue River Eagles this past week.
Unleashing their stifling defense, the Sundance Bulldogs held the Lady Wolves to single digit scoring throughout the night, securing another non-conference win for the regular season.
It was a crucial conference showdown on Friday as the Bulldogs traveled to Tongue River to face the Eagles in their final conference matchup. A victory over the Eagles would put the teams in a tie for first place in the conference.
It was a rocky start for the Bulldogs, who scored only three points in the first quarter while the Eagles put up 12. A flip in the momentum, however, brought the Bulldogs within two points, 16-18, at the half.
The Bulldogs kept that momentum going throughout the second half, fueled by the scoring of Jaylin Mills and Savannah Williams, who scored 16 and 12 points respectively. In the end, it was the Bulldogs who clinched a share of the regular season conference title with a nail-biting 39-38 victory.
The Sundance Lady Bulldogs close out their regular season play with a 17-5 season record and a 5-1 conference record.
Seeding for the regional tournament came down to a coin flip and the Sundance Lady Bulldogs will go into postseason play the number two seed and the Tongue River Lady Eagles will be the number one seed.
The Lady Bulldogs will open post season play taking on the number three seed of the south, the Pine Bluffs Hornets, on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Pine Bluffs High School. On Friday all games will move to Burns High School.
Boys
The Bulldog boys' basketball team split their final games of the regular season, taking a win against the Moorcroft Wolves and falling to the Tongue River Eagles.
It was a short road trip for the Bulldogs on Tuesday night as they traveled to Moorcroft to face the county rival, Moorcroft Wolves. The Bulldogs seized control early, taking a commanding 20-6 lead throughout the first quarter of play.
The Wolves, however, managed to chip away at the deficit during the second quarter, narrowing the margin, 20-29, at the halftime break. The Bulldogs regained the momentum throughout the second half of play behind the impressive double digit scoring of Jake Schommer (19 points), Owen Watt (15 points), Keaton Mills (14 points) and Eli Gill (14 points). These four Bulldogs helped the team to a 74-41 victory over the Wolves.
The roles were reversed on Friday as the Bulldogs traveled to Tongue River for their final conference game of the season. Up against the Eagles, the Bulldogs struggled to gain the offensive momentum they had earlier in the week.
Although the score remained close throughout the first half, the Bulldogs could not maintain their scoring momentum and were only able to score seven points in the second half as the Eagles went on to a 57-28 victory.
The Bulldogs end their regular season play with a 12-10 overall record and a 0-6 conference record. Heading into the postseason, the Bulldogs will face the number one team from the south, Lingle-Ft. Laramie. The teams will play at 8:30 p.m. at Burns High School on Thursday.
