Idler sentence increased

Josh Idler, who was recently jailed on child abuse and assault charges, will serve an additional two to six years of incarceration after being found guilty of breaking the terms of his probation in an earlier case.

This increases the amount of time he is set to serve to a potential maximum of 16 years.

In the 2021 case, Idler was adjudicated guilty of counts including reckless endangerment, child abuse and domestic abuse. The case involved an allegedly ongoing situation of verbal and physical abuse that culminated in an incident where he pulled a handgun on a victim.

Idler admitted to breaking the terms of his probation.

Judge Stuart S. Healy III initially sentenced Idler to between two and six years in a state penal institution for the first count, one year of incarceration for the second and 180 days for the third, all of which were to run concurrently.

However, the sentence was suspended pending successful completion of three years of supervised probation.

Last week, Judge Healy reimposed the sentence of two to six years.

He judged that it should run consecutively to the sentence Idler was given in January on a more recent felony case.

The two cases were heard by separate judges. Idler’s January sentence came from Judge James Michael Causey, who heard the newer case involving allegations that he pushed minors into a bathtub, causing injury, and attempted to push a woman he knew was pregnant from a moving vehicle.

Idler pled guilty to two felony counts of child abuse and one of aggravated assault and battery and was sentenced to between eight and ten years and a $3000 fine on each count, with credit for 153 days already served. These sentences are to run concurrently.

Consequently, the two sentences combined will run for a minimum of ten years and a maximum of 16.
