Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
Crook County School District (CCSD) fared well on the annual state report card, but Superintendent Mark Broderson says the district won't be resting on its laurels.
The report card, published by the Wyoming Department of Education, shows that CCSD's most recent scores are above the state average for proficiency at all levels in English language and math.
In English language, proficiency at the elementary and middle school levels was 58%, above the 54% Wyoming average. At the high school level, proficiency was at 52-54%, matching the state average of 53%.
In math, elementary and middle school students tested at 63% proficiency in math – a considerable amount more than the 51% state average. The high school average of 46-48% was also above the Wyoming average of 42%.
The average ACT score for CCSD was 18.5, which is very similar to the state average of 18.8.
"Two of our expectations are to test above the state average on the WYTOPP and the ACT," Broderson says.
"As a district we are there, but we will always be working to stay above the state average."
Four of the county's five elementary and middle schools met the long-term goal for math achievement and three of five for English language, according to the report card. Two of the three met the long-term goals for English language and math.
None of the county's schools were identified as low performing overall, or in any subgroup.
According to the report card, 15 students in Crook County received Hathaway Scholarships among the class of 2021-22.
CCSD's report card shows a total enrollment of 1238 students across the county's schools and 108 teachers.
