Loren Christensen, 75 of Spearfish, South Dakota, was born on December 27, 1947, in Deadwood, South Dakota and passed away on October 25, 2023. He attended grade school in Buffalo and White River, South Dakota.
His sophomore year, his family moved to Spearfish to take over the family ranch. While in high school he was active in choir, football, basketball and plays. On December 28, 1967, he married Claudia Conklin, his high school sweetheart and love of his life. They were married 56 years and blessed with two children, Jason and Michelle.
He attended BHSU and later became a manager and insurance agent for Farm Bureau Financial Services. He worked for Farm Bureau in the Sturgis office for 42 years. He was successful and won many company awards including trips all over the world. He was also a member of Life Underwriters Association where he was named to the Million Dollar Roundtable.
Loren was a member of Kiwanis, American Legion, and participated for several years on the Honor Guard. He was on the board at the High Plains Heritage Center. He served on the council and sang with the choirs at Our Saviors and Immanual Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed waterskiing, boating, camping, hunting and fishing. The joy of his life was his children and grandchildren. He loved attending their activities and spending time with them.
Loren will be remembered for his outgoing personality, strong work ethic, willingness to help others, wit, charm and love for his family.
Survivors include his wife, Claudia; son, Jason (Janet) Christensen; daughter, Michelle (Aaron) Sinclair; five grandchildren, Spencer, Drew, Sophia, Grace and Mattia; brother, Bryce (Lanna) Christensen; stepmother, Clara Christensen; brothers-in-law, Larry (Shelley) Conklin, Joe (Colleen) Conklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryce and Annette Christensen; in-laws, Velma and Elmer Conklin; and sister Leanna (John) Hanson.
Funeral services were on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish. Burial was at the Alva Cemetery in Alva, Wyoming.
In remembrance of Loren's life, the family will give any charitable donations to High Plains Western Heritage Center and Immanual Lutheran Church.
