Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
As you head into the Crook County Library for your regular literary fix, your eye may be caught by a new addition: a bookcase that now stands in the entranceway, filled from end to end with interesting titles.
Unlike most of the library's offerings, each of those books is for sale.
They represent an expanded version of the annual Friends of the Library book sale, which for a number of years has been one of the group's major fundraising efforts.
The bookcase will allow the sale of donated books to continue all year round, expanding the possibilities for the Friends in their efforts to support the library.
The bookcase was purchased through donations received in memory of Marjorie Goodson, who was a long-time member of the Friends of the Library and very involved with the annual book sale.
Funds raised through the annual sale have been used in the past to purchase numerous items for the library, ranging from chairs for the meeting and Wyoming rooms and at the patron computers to a step ladder, a play kitchen in the children's area and STEM/STEAM kits for checkout. Most recently, the Friends of the Library purchased a stove and cabinets for the meeting room and a utility cart.
The new bookcase was revealed to coincide with National Friends of the Library Week, October 15-21.
