Cross Country headed to State

The Sundance Bulldogs boys' varsity team won the 2A Powder River Conference Cross Country Meet Saturday, Oct. 14 in Newcastle. Five Bulldog runners finished in the top ten, earning All-Conference recognition at the meet. 

Senior Deklan Gill placed fourth in the boys' varsity 5000-meter race, running in 19:15.55. Junior Angel Villegas finished in sixth in a time of 20:04.33. Juniors Wyatt Flahaven and Parker Skeens finished in eighth and ninth place, running in times of 20:54.38 and 21:15.47, respectively.

Juniors Kyten Johnson and Holden Ayer finished just shy of the top ten, earning 12th and 13th place, respectively. Johnson ran a time of 21:35.78 and Ayer crossed the finish line in a time of 21:36.30. Junior Jager McLaughlin finished 19th in a time of 23:53.06. 

Freshman Maddison Neiman earned an All-Conference eighth-place finish in a time of 25:26.29. Neiman shaved nearly two minutes off her previous time in Wright Sept. 30. 

"The Conference win is just what we needed to head into the state cross country meet this weekend," said co-coach Ann Marie Mickle. "The boys varsity runners stepped up and worked as a team to cross that finish line together for a winning score. Coach Jungwirth and I are also very proud of freshman Maddison Neiman for the huge improvement in her race time." 

The Bulldog junior high runners finished out their season competing in Northeast Middle School Conference Meet. The runners ran a 3000-meter race for the day.

In the middle school girls' race, seventh-grader Remington Johnson finished 11th in a time of 13:35.89. Seventh-grader Eva Stark finished in 13th with a time of 13:38.28. Seventh graders Taylor Asheim and Ava Cooney ran in times of 17:16.48 and 17:50.91, respectively. Seventh-grader Trinity Finn rounded out the junior high girls in a time of 21:43.79. 

In the middle school boys' race, eighth-grader Rylan Asheim finished in 12:40.43, earning a 12th-place finish. Sixth grader C.J. Koep ran in a time of 15:23.64.

The Bulldog Varsity boys and girls will compete in the Wyoming 2A State Cross Country Meet on Sat., Oct. 21 in Cheyenne.
