Flint sentenced to ten years in child porn case

Sundance man sentenced in U.S. District Court for possessing images of children

Charles Flint of Sundance has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for possession of child pornography.

The sentence was imposed on October 2 by U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson. Flint pled guilty to the charges in July.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christyne M. Martens.

Flint was arrested earlier this year and charged with four felony counts of possession of child porn after the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children received information on October 24, 2022 from Microsoft Online Operations that a user of Microsoft Bing Images was in possession of suspected child pornography.

This information was generated as a cyber tip and referred to the Wyoming Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The agent assigned to investigate found that the reported user had accessed the internet from an IP address registered to Flint at his Sundance address on October 24 at around 10:13 p.m., UTC. The report allegedly indicated that the user had six separate images of child pornography.

On October 30, the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children received additional information from Microsoft Online Operations indicating that a user had two separate images of child pornography.

The agent learned that Flint had felony convictions for sexual assault on a child and internet luring of a child in the State of Colorado in 2007.

He also found that Flint is a registered sex offender in Wyoming.

The agent obtained a search warrant for Flint and his Sundance address on February 27. The warrant was executed on March 1 at around 10:10 a.m.

The agent made contact with Flint and advised him that his residence would be searched. In a recorded interview, Flint allegedly admitted that he had wi-fi at his residence and did not believe anyone else had the password.

Flint allegedly said there would be child pornography on his laptop and that he obtained it from the internet and saved the images to his laptop.

During the search, a laptop computer was located and several images of child pornography were allegedly located. Flint was placed under arrest on March 1.

Federal charges of possession of obscene material and possession of child pornography against Flint of Sundance were later filed in U.S. District Court in Cheyenne and a federal arrest warrant was issued by the U.S. Marshal’s Office on May 19.

“As a result, the State believes that the federal system is better equipped to address these charges and to impose an appropriate sentence,” stated a motion filed by Deputy Crook County and Prosecuting Attorney Jeani Stone.
