It was a picture-perfect fall day in Gillette for the Wayne Chaney Memorial cross country meet Friday Oct. 6.
The Sundance Bulldogs varsity boys team competed, setting personal bests and earning state-qualifying times before end-of-season competitions begin this week.
Senior Deklan Gill ran in a time of 19:03.71. Junior Angel Villegas finished in 19:32.47. Junior Parker Skeens ran in a state-qualifying time of 20:07.24, while juniors Wyatt Flahaven and Kyten Johnson crossed the finish line in times of 20:33.62 and 20:45.29, respectively. Flahaven and Johnson's finishes were state-qualifying times.
Junior Holden Ayer finished in 21:41.99, while junior Jager McLaughlin rounded out the Bulldogs, finishing in 23:26.51.
"The boys pushed themselves in Gillette and Coach Jungwirth and I are proud of the improved times this past weekend," said co-coach Ann Marie Mickle. "Our runners keep getting stronger, and they are pushing to do their best. As we prepare for the conference and state competitions, we are confident the team will step up and surpass the goals they have set for themselves this season."
The junior high girls and boys competed in the Wolves Invite on Saturday, Oct. 7 in Pine Haven.
Eighth-grader Rylan Asheim placed fifth in a time of 12:13.89, while sixth-grader CJ Koep placed 7th, finishing in 13:49.09.
Remmi Johnson earned a third-place finish in a time of 12:11.37. Seventh-grader Eva Stark finished 6th in 13:05.38. Seventh-grader Taylor Asheim placed 10th in 15:38.29. Fellow seventh-graders Ava Cooney and Trinity Finn crossed the finish line in 16:03.83 and 20:09.28, respectively.
The Bulldogs will compete in the 2A Powder River Conference Meet on Friday, Oct. 13 in Newcastle. The Wyoming State Cross Country Meet is Saturday, Oct. 21 in Cheyenne.
