Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
Wyoming’s unemployment rate fell below 3% last month – and Crook County’s was significantly lower even than that.
As one of the most employed counties in the state last month, Crook County had a 2.3% unemployment rate.
This is a significantly better statistic than at the same time last year, when unemployment in this county was at 4%.
This represents a year-to-year drop of 1.7% - the biggest reduction in unemployment over the year of all counties, followed by Washakie County’s 3.9 to 2.9% and Niobrara’s 3.2 to 2.2%.
In terms of numbers, this means that the number of unemployed people in Crook County dropped from 165 in August, 2022 to 90 in August, 2023.
The 2.3% unemployment rate was one of the lowest in the state, bested only by 2.2% in Converse, Niobrara and Weston counties and 1.5% in Teton County.
Wyoming’s overall unemployment rate in August was 2.9%, a reduction from 3.7% in August, 2022 and lower than the national unemployment rate of 3.8%.
Every county saw its unemployment rates fall year-to-year, which, according the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, suggests a continued tightening of the state’s labor market.
