Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
It was a rough go for the Upton-Sundance Patriots this past week as they faced the Big Horn Rams in Big Horn last Friday. The Rams took the opening kickoff and set the pace for the game, marching their way down the field and into the endzone on the opening drive, all the while taking very little time off the clock.
As the Patriots took a turn on offense, penalties and a fumble backed them up close to the endzone. The Patriots were unable to get a fresh set of downs and were forced to punt, setting the Rams offense up for another quick drive into the endzone.
A successful extra point quickly put the Rams up 12-0 before the Patriots were able to gain their composure. As the first quarter drew to a close, Patriot quarterback Keaton Mills aired it to Rhett Watt for a big gain down to the three-yard line.
Shortly thereafter, Watt was able to finish what he started as he ran the ball in for a touchdown, putting the Patriots on the board. With a successful extra point by Mills, the Patriots trailed 12-7 with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter.
Unfortunately for the Patriots, there was still time in the quarter and the explosive Rams offense was able to push their way down the field one more time, adding seven more to the board. The remaining quarters of the game seemed to mirror the first as the Rams dominated both the offensive and defensive end.
Scoring three more times before the halftime break, the Rams headed into the locker room with a commanding 39-7 lead. The second half of play didn’t fare much better for the Patriots as the running clock took over and the Big Horn Rams took a 45-7 overall victory.
The US Patriots hope to turn the tide as they head back to the Sheridan area to face the Tongue River Eagles on Thursday this week.
