Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
Dear Editor,
It is wonderful to learn that Sundance is trying to improve ease of access and safety for pedestrians and other non-motorized travelers throughout our town. Perhaps the city, county and high school authorities could get together to rectify some other concerns that I have observed.
The crosswalk at 11th and Cleveland could use a flashing light that is triggered by users to alert motorists that it is occupied, this will benefit students who attend the after-school program, athletes who have practice after the crossing guard is off duty and pedestrians who cross after hours. The set-ups that Spearfish and Deadwood have are very nice.
The crosswalks at 6th and Cleveland could use these lights as well. There is the sidewalk from 6th to 7th street along Main St that is pushed up by tree roots and just ends before it reaches the street with no wheelchair access.
There are various trees around town with branches so low that people of average height are either required to duck or move onto the roadway to get around them. This is more of a nuisance but the sprinklers at the high school and courthouse that water the sidewalks could use adjusting also.
And since winter is just around the corner, it should be figured out who is responsible for removing snow along the southern sidewalk of the fire department building.
Thank you for considering these concerns,
Jeremiah Bock
