Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
Crook County Library will host two programs “In the Company of Thomas Jefferson” by Tom Pitz on Thurs., July 6 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the library meeting room in Sundance. Both programs are free and open to the public.
At 2 p.m., “Mr. Jefferson” is pleased to present a program for fourth through ninth graders on the American Revolution. Participants will be moving around within the room, but have no fears, their “revolution” will be much more controlled than our country’s original one.
He would love to have at least a dozen participants. Attendees may contact the library for extra credit in their history classes for the coming year.
At 7 p.m., Mr. Jefferson will be presenting a program for all ages on the Louisiana Purchase, which ultimately brought the Wyoming territory into the United States. Of course, Mr. Jefferson will anticipate tough questions from the program attendees, since they will be a bit more comfortable traveling back in time to 1823.
Thomas Pitz, a.k.a. Mr. Jefferson, is a resident of beautiful Orange County, in the heart of the Virginia piedmont, home-place of Jefferson. Pitz has been portraying Jefferson since 1987.
He has amassed a list of clients that ranges from corporate executives and medical faculty to elementary school students. Pitz considers it an honor and a privilege to bring one of America’s greatest historical figures back to life.
“After performing as Mr. Jefferson for many years,” says Pitz, “I have come to believe that none of the ‘Founding Fathers’ evokes a stronger feeling in people than Thomas Jefferson. They may love him or hate him, but few people can ignore him if they wish to understand America.”
