Mathilda Mae Grubb

Mathilda Mae (Peterson) Grubb, 86 of rural Sundance, Wyoming, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023 in Newcastle, Wyoming.

Mathilda was born on April 12, 1937, at the Peterson Ranch in Weston County to Leonard and Harriett (Waters) Peterson, 45 minutes ahead of her twin brother Martin. She obtained her elementary education at local country schools, attended Newcastle High School her freshman year and finished school at Sundance High School, graduating in 1955.

While employed at the Sundance State Bank, Mathilda married the love of her life, Francis Grubb on September 8, 1957. They made their home at the Grubb ranch West of Sundance, where they raised cattle, sheep, horses and chickens. They added two daughters to their family, Donna Mae in 1958 and Debbie Marie in 1960.

Mathilda grew up a tomboy amongst several rowdy brothers and had no trouble holding her own. She was a happy, loving, hardworking woman; loved living and working the ranch life alongside her husband and continued well after his passing in 1995.

Mathilda enjoyed crocheting, knitting and was never too busy to chat. She loved all her animals, caring for bum lambs, milking cows, gathering eggs and taking her dogs everywhere she went. She had a laugh to remember and a smile that will never be forgotten.

Mathilda is survived by her brother, Richard (Linda) Peterson; sister, Carol (Larry) Heupel; daughter, Debbie Whitney; six grandchildren; along with many beloved great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mathilda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, George, Robert, Donald (Pete), Carl (Bull), Martin; daughter, Donna Jones and son-in-law David Whitney.

Arrangements are pending with Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance. Online condolences may be written at http://www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com.
