The Wyoming Department of Revenue has opened applications for its newly expanded property tax relief program, which is intended to assist homeowners struggling to pay property taxes.
“With this program, Wyoming is taking a step forward toward helping those who need it most,” announced Governor Mark Gordon.
“We recognize the importance of keeping property taxes low so families can remain in their homes and communities. We are committed to ensuring that this program helps homeowners in need. Target relief ensures that those who need assistance the most get it without eroding tax revenue from local governments. My hat’s off to the legislature for recognizing the importance of this program.”
Through this program, you could receive up to half of the median amount of residential property tax in Crook County ($672.18), or 75% of your property tax bill – whichever of those two amounts is lower.
To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:
• Your property tax has been paid in a timely manner
• Your household income is less than either 125% of the county or state median household income, whichever is greater. The median household income in Crook County ($67,080) is lower than the state median ($69,120). Therefore, your household income must be lower than $86,400 to qualify.
• Other than your house, your household assets, car for each adult and IRA and other pension funds should be worth less than $150,000 per household member.
• You must have been a resident of Wyoming for the last five years.
“We are excited to offer this program to Wyoming homeowners who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Wyoming Department of Revenue Director Brenda Henson.
“We encourage anyone who thinks they may qualify to reach out to their local treasurer’s office or visit our website to learn more about the eligibility requirements and how to apply. Based on the expanded criteria adopted by the legislature, we anticipate being able to provide property tax relief to nearly double the number of homeowners assisted last year.”
The application deadline for this program is the first Monday in June. Visit the Wyoming Department of Revenue website or the County Treasurer’s Office at the county courthouse for an application form.
