Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

Once upon a time the Crook County Republican Party reflected the custom and culture of the citizens it represented. The Central Committee was made up of people with strong personalities, and the precinct people who represented their neighbors in their voting district knew where they stood.

I sat at the Republican tent for a few days during the fair this year. There was a bin full of campaign materials from various candidates for us to put out for people to take.

As I sat down, I was concerned that only certain candidates’ pamphlets were displayed while other candidates were not, depending on who was tending the booth that day. Were those Republicans censoring whose materials were put out and whose remained at the bottom of the bin? What about the freedom of the voters to choose?

Today the Central Committee has weak leadership, taking their cues from – among others – Campbell County. Since when has that ever been a good idea?

Once upon a time being a Crook County Republican meant something to be proud of. It can be that way again.
