The Sundance Bulldogs ended their cross country season with a sixth-place finish at the 2A State Cross Country Championships in Ethete on Oct. 22.
Six runners competed in the race, with perfect running weather.
Sophomore Angel Villegas finished in the top 20 with a time of 19:56.20. Sophomore Wyatt Flahaven crossed the finish line in 20:53.82.
Sophomore Holden Ayer finished in 21:53.93, while senior Kort McLaughlin ended in a time of 22:00.22. Sophomores Kyten Johnson and Jager McLaughlin rounded out the Bulldog team, finishing in 24:00.67 and 24:28.56, respectively.
Villegas was also honored along with runners across the state for his character and positive encouragement of his teammates. A student is selected from each participating school for the honor.
Coaches Ann Marie Mickle and Jennifer Jungwirth noted not only the boys' work ethic throughout the season, but their camaraderie and teamwork.
"Coach Jungwirth and I could not be more pleased with the season. The boys pushed themselves and achieved their goals," said coach Ann Marie Mickle.
"They are tremendously supportive of one another and they do a good job pushing each other while having a lot of fun. The positive end of the season will motivate them and set new expectations next season."
