The Sundance Bulldog Cross Country team competed in the Brittany Rentas Memorial Invite in Wright on Friday, Sept. 30 after a three-week break from competition. The Eldon Knudson Invitational ended early due to weather conditions. The Pine Haven Invite was canceled.
Twelve Bulldog runners competed in the junior high and varsity divisions. New personal records were set and runners saw their times increase as the conference and state meets near.
Sophomore Angel Villegas finished in the top 10 varsity runners with an eighth-place finish in a time of 21:11.74. Sophomore Holden Ayer ended his race in a time of 21:51.30.
Senior Kort McLaughlin ran in a time of 22:04.42. Sophomores Wyatt Flahaven and Kyten Johnson crossed the finish line in 22:20.56 and 22:56.96, respectively. The race was McLaughlin's and Ayer's quickest time this season.
Eighth-grader Maddison Neiman finished 14th in a time of 14:40.84. Sixth-grader Remmington Johnson ran in a time of 15:38.35.
Sixth-grader Eva Stark ran in 16:48.36. Sixth-graders Taylor Asheim and Trinity Finn completed their first cross country race in times of 20:31.27 and 24:14.52, respectively.
Seventh-grader Rylan Asheim finished in a time of 15:20.01, setting a new personal record in his 3k competitions for the season.
Co-coach Ann Marie Mickle noted the hard work put forth by the runners the past few weeks, despite not being able to compete for several weeks.
"Anytime runners set a new personal record, it is a success. That success will continue as the runners work to compete strongly in the upcoming 2A conference and state meets," Mickle said.
The Bulldogs compete in the Wayne Chaney Invite in Gillette on Friday, Oct. 7 before the 2A Powder River Conference meet in Dayton on Oct. 14.
