Folders have been received in Sundance announcing the opening of the Short-Cut West hiway, from the Twin Cities to the Yellowstone Park. The route traverses almost a direct line across South Dakota, coming from Belle Fourche direct to Beulah and Sundance. The new hiway certainly is a short cut geographically, and with good road conditions along the "45th paralled" will appeal to the tourists.

Merritt Barton received severe injuries Sunday evening by being thrown from a horse at the Barton ranch. He is reported to be recovering and no serious results are expected.

The good roads committee of the commercial club has decided to give their dance this year on Aug. 28. This is the date of the opening of the Crook County teachers' institute, and during the afternoon will be held the dairy meeting called by the club and farm bureau. The dance will thus serve the dual purpose of entertainment and for raising funds to meet the contingent expense of the C.B. Hiway.
