Every citizen of Sundance agrees that the celebration staged Tuesday and Wednesday was successful beyond anticipations. From all points of Crook County, people gathered to celebrate the Fourth with Sundance, Weston county was well represented, and the Spearfish delegation was a splendid turnout, headed by the twenty-piece band of the Queen City.
The grasshoppers in Wyoming are a greater menace this year than ever before, according to reports which have been coming in from all sides. Last year the hoppers were numerous mostly in Sheridan, Big Horn and Goshen county, but the reports which have to date reached the farm bureau show that the hoppers are numerous in these three counties, more than ever, and also in Converse, Laramie, Fremont, Niobrara, Park, Basin and Johnson counties.
J.W. Zane is making some extensive improvements on the Sundance Hotel, which he recently purchased from Mrs. Ripley. Besides remodeling throughout the interior, a new kitchen annex is being built. When the building is fixed to their liking, Mr. and Mrs. Zane will move into their new location and will have of the best tourist hotels on the C.B. Hiway.

Horse racing, wild cow milking and amateur calf roping climaxed the weekend in Sundance as the first Race Meet and Rodeo ever held here got underway. A purse of approximately $1733 was given in prizes. Champion cowboys in Saturdays events are: ½ mile: J.B. Cooper, Belle Fourche, Willard Ripley, Hulett, and Perry Sherrard, Gillette; Musical Chair: Perry Sherrard, J. B. Cooper, Willard Ripley; Amateur calf roping: Bill Pogue, Newcastle, Bob Wencude and Kets Greeves, Newcastle. Cow milking: Bill Proctor, Seely, Albert Proctor, Hulett, and Bud Ewealt, Alzada.
Nineteen slot machines and two Twenty-one gambling tables classed as “illegal” were confiscated in Crook County last week by Sheriff W. H. Blakeman. The machines were 5, 10 and 25 cent. Sheriff Blakeman estimated that $700 was taken from the machines and turned over to the County Treasurer to await court orders. The machines and tables were destroyed.

Linda Simons of Beulah was chosen Miss Wyoming Quarter Horse for 1972-1973. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Simons. Miss Simons will be making public appearances at rodeos and horse shows and will be a contestant in the Miss Rodeo Wyoming contest at the State Fair.
Crook County has received a check of $2473.41 for payment of work completed at the Snowmobile Recreation area. Drawn on the federal Land and Conservation Fund, the money is for the final payment of recent investments made to develop the Snowmobile Recreation Area.

Wagaman Construction recently began work on an addition that will be added to the west end of the Crook County Memorial Hospital in Sundance. The addition is needed in order to house the Sundance Clinic according to Hospital Administrator Don Nelson.
