Residents to receive trash coupons again

For the last few years, the City of Sundance has issued a free trash coupon to each of its utility customers. This coupon has offered citizens the opportunity to bring their trash to the city’s transfer station completely free of charge on a day of their choosing.

The coupons replaced the old system of a “free landfill day”, which was a single, designated day on which tipping fees for everyone were waived. However, this was a heavy workload for the landfill attendants.

In addition, Mayor Paul Brooks said on Tuesday, it was also very difficult to figure out the best date. Either the chosen day clashed with Mother’s Day or graduation or another date important to members of the community, or the skies inevitably chose that day to pour down constant rain.

“We’re just going to do like we’ve done them in the past and put [the coupon] on the bill,” Brooks said.

Clerk Treasurer Kathy Lenz clarified that the coupon will appear on the back of customers’ bills and will be valid until the end of June. Citizens can present the coupon at the transfer station on their day of choice and will be able to bring trash free throughout that day.
