Movie nights coming to Sundance Square

With the blessing of the City of Sundance, summer movie nights are set to come to Sundance Square this June.

The council has granted permission for the Sundance Chamber of Commerce to make use of the equipment at the city's newest park and to use the concession stand at no charge.

The latter decision was made because the chamber is a nonprofit entity. The city does plan to charge a fee for use of the concession stand for profit-based enterprises.

The movies are expected to begin in June and run through July. Although the exact timeframe has yet to be set, it is anticipated that a month of movies will be scheduled.

Said Clerk Treasurer Kathy Lenz, the chamber has already procured the license to show the movies and will be asking local businesses to sponsor the event.

A farmer's market may be scheduled to coincide with the movie nights, which the chamber at this point believes will be on a Monday or Tuesday evening.

The council also opted not to charge for use of the concession stand on the basis, as stated Mayor Paul Brooks, that the event will be "good for the community".
