Busy weekend for track

The winter weather held off for the track and field teams last week as the Bulldog participated in meets at Upton and Spearfish. Traveling to Upton on Thursday, the Bulldogs competed in the Mick Tonkel Classic. The Classic was a smaller meet and many of the Bulldog athletes were able to take the top spots in their events. Jake Schommer took top honors in the 110 M hurdles as teammate Decklan Gill did the same in the 300 M Hurdles. On the girls’ side Bailey and Brook Hofland took first and second place in both the shot put and discus events. 

On Saturday the Bulldogs ventured across the border to compete in the Queen City Classic in Spearfish, SD. The Classic is a larger meet, but the Bulldogs were able to fare well throughout the day. Many Bulldog athletes achieved their personal records for the season so far. “The weather was great and we were able to prequalify for state a couple of relay teams and another thrower,” coach Lance Hofland commented. 

The boys 4x800 relay, composed of Ryder Downey, Angel Villegas, Deklan Gill and Levi Rudloff, took a sixth place finish for the day and prequalified for the state track meet with a time of 9:08. The girls 1600 Medley Relay with Brook Hofland, Bailey Hofland, Riley Marchant and Zoe Skeens also prequalified for state with a time of 4:51.14. The Bulldogs also saw Brook Hofland prequalify in the discus with her throw of 104-06.
