Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
Curtis Hanzlik, best known as Curt, age 49, of Sundance, Wyoming, passed away unexpectedly at his home with his wife at his side on Sunday, December 5, 2021.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Home in Sundance.
Curt was born to Mary McHenry and Curtis Pokorney, Sr. on July 3, 1972, in Yankton, South Dakota. He was the second of five children. He grew up in Yankton and of course got into the typical mischief a boy could find. He had many cousins and buddies who always encouraged a fun time. He attended Yankton Schools and then became a father to two amazing girls, Merissa Hanzlik and Mickayla Hanzlik in 1993 and 1994. He then brought another girl into the world, Madelynn Kribell in 2002. Soon after he met and married his wife Lynn Hanzlik (Peterson) on September 25, 2004 in Alcester, South Dakota and with that became the best father to Nicholas Peterson. Soon after matrimony, the family moved to Belle Fourche, South Dakota and in the following year (2005) Chloe was born (another girl). Finally in 2007, Curt was blessed with the boy he could name after himself and Curtis Jay completed the family.
Throughout these many years he worked construction, carpentry, plumbing and was an all-around handyman. He always said, "If you can't find me handsome at least you will find me handy." His greatest pride was of his children and loving wife, and his greatest accomplishment was building his dream house for his family. He will always be remembered swinging that yellow hammer and a Marlboro between his lips.
