The Sundance volleyball team was back in action over the weekend facing off against the Hulett Red Devils on Thursday night and hosting the Tongue River Eagles Saturday afternoon.
Traveling to Hulett Thursday night to face the Lady Red Devils, the Lady Bulldogs struggled to find their rhythm in game one. The strong serves of Myah Cornett and Jesse Driskill, paired with the big blocking of Cornett and Kaydence Westover, forced the Bulldogs to adjust their plan of attack.
“We definitely had to change our swings so they weren’t going into the blockers and adjust our tips to get them past,” Bulldog middle/outside hitter Ty Holloman commented. After dropping game one 20-25, the slight adjustment in hitting put the Bulldogs back on track and they were able to defeat the Red Devils in the following three games.
On Saturday the Lady Bulldogs hosted their first home game of the season with the Tongue River Eagles. The first two games seemed to mirror each other behind the strong serving of Ella Bifulco and Ty Holloman.
When asked the secret to her success in serving, Bifulco commented, “First, keep it in. After that, don’t miss and keep increasing the power.” Both Bifulco and Holloman were able to put together a couple good strings of serves to help the Bulldog offense maintain a healthy lead and take a 25-16 victory in each game.
As game three got underway the Bulldogs seemed to lose their momentum and Chaylee Campbell began stringing together large serving runs for the Eagles. The Bulldogs stayed within range, but we’re unable to overtake the Lady Eagles and fell 21-25 in game three.
The senior leadership in game four took over as the Bulldogs righted their ship and closed the match with a 25-15 victory. “If we play together we play strong, and that’s just who we are as a team right now,” senior Bulldog Ella Bifulco stated.
The Bulldogs volleyball team currently holds an 11-6-1 record and will host the Newcastle Dogies on Friday and the Big Horn Rams on Saturday.
