The Sundance High School cross country team found success during the Moorcroft Invitational on Friday, Sept. 24 in Pine Haven.
The Bulldogs placed first as a team over the Wright Panthers.
Senior Andrew Davis ran his fastest 5000-meter time, 20:29, placing fourth overall. Freshman Angel Villegas ran a state qualifying time of 20:53, placing fifth in the meet. Freshmen Wyatt Flahaven and Holden Ayer fought for the seventh- and eighth-place finishes, running in times of 22:42.45 and 22.42.77. Junior Kort McLaughlin finished ninth in a time of 21:50.
Davis shaved off 1:24 seconds, while Villegas shaved off 37 seconds for his state-qualifying finish. Flahaven ran 1:26 minutes faster, while Ayer shaved off 52 seconds from his previous time. McLaughlin ran 54 seconds faster.
Sixth-grader Carter Croell placed third in the 2500-meter middle school race, running in a time of 12:36.
Each week the Bulldog runners have shaved off significant time, and pushed to the finish.
"The team's hard work is paying off. Six out of our seven competitors on Friday hit new personal records," said co-coach Ann Marie Mickle. "The high school runners also scored first place in the team competition over second place Wright. Congratulations to all of the team!"
The goal is to keep shaving off time and becoming stronger. This boost came at the perfect time as we prepare for conference and state competitions.
The Bulldogs will run in Wright on Saturday, Oct. 2 before competing in the Conference Meet on Oct. 15.
