Caseworker working to get assistance out

Crook County welcomes a new caseworker for WYO HELP, a community action agency that has expanded to now be available here. Elise Hanslip says she is thrilled to represent the agency’s goals in this county.

“WYO HELP has intrigued me from the beginning. We don’t offer a simple hand out. My primary role as a case manager is to offer our clients a method to become self-sufficient,” she says.

“With the tools that we have, auto repair, mental health, ability to help with minor home repairs and decreasing hunger, we are providing a step for self-sufficiency and self-worth.”

WYO HELP also provides assistance with rent from the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) for many hit hard by COVID-19 and the economic downturn of the past two years. Hanslip says she is optimistic about the relief that WYO HELP provides.

“We do not want to be hidden in the community. We are asking to be involved – to work side by side with police officers, senior citizens and all town events promoting WYO HELP,” she says.

“We want them to know WYO HELP helps and assists all age groups from newborns to young adults starting out in their homes, middle agers who are struggling and the elderly that are just lost. WYO HELP is a community-based organization that encompasses all.”

WYO HELP has provided over $127,000 in financial assistance across six counties. Services include rent and utility payments, car repair, minor home repair, minor medical help and more.
