FaithHoney Anderson of Devils Tower and Devlin Riley of Aladdin were among the four student volunteers to assist at the 29th Annual Wyoming Congressional Award Golf Invitational Tournament held at Teton Pines Country Club in Jackson on August 10-11, 2021.
The Congressional Award is a voluntary, non-competitive program open to all 14-23-year-olds in the United States, regardless of prior or current achievement, life circumstances or physical ability. It recognizes achievement in personal development, physical fitness, exploration and volunteer service.
The Gold Congressional Award is the highest honor an American youth can earn. FaithHoney earned her Gold Medal in 2020 and Devlin began working toward his Bronze Medal in January 2021.
The Wyoming Congressional Award receives 100% of their funds through fundraising efforts such as the annual golf tournament. Every dollar invested in the program provides a solid foundation for Wyoming's youth to work toward their personal and public service goals.
Fundraising goes for scholarships to Gold Medalists, stipends for their trip to Washington, D.C. to receive this medal, and for the staff to encourage and support youth toward a lifetime of community engagement. This year, the money raised may also go towards mini-grants available for youth who may need financial support to complete their Exploration/Expedition goal area, and for regional community service days.
Since the inception of the Congressional Award in 1979, Wyoming has been the only state in the country to manage this award locally, in order to reach young people where they live and provide hands-on guidance and mentoring. Visit http://www.wcac.us to learn more.
