Commission sets annual mill levies

The number of mills to be levied in this county has not changed this year, though the county’s valuation has once again slightly increased. This, said County Assessor Theresa Curren on Monday, is why the amount each entity will receive this fiscal year has gone up.

This year’s valuation, as fixed by the state board, is $220,612,930. This compares to a valuation of $214,543,363 in 2020 and $201,069,634 in 2019.

“It’s just a little bit higher because of the amount collected,” Curren told the county commissioners as she presented this year’s property tax levy request for their approval.

The total number of mills for rural Crook County, however, remains at 62.5, and “are all the same as last year.”

This includes 12 mills for the state and 12 mills for the county for a total of $2,647,355 each. In 2020, these taxes levied were a little lower at $2,574,520.

School district taxes once again come in at 31.5 mills, just over half the total mills levied in this county. This year, that represents $6,949,307.

As always, Crook County Medical Services District receives three mills this year, totaling $661,839, which compares to $643,630 in 2020. Crook County Weed & Pest, Crook County Weed & Pest Special Management, Crook County Museum District and Crook County Senior Citizens Services District will each receive one mill at $220,613 (compared to $214,543 last year.)

On top of these 62.5 mills, the municipalities of Crook County will each receive eight mills. The total mills levied on properties within the towns and cities will therefore be 70.5 mills, which represents $15,553,212.
