WYDOT is warning residents of a possible phishing scam that involves driver’s licenses and has issued a statement to inform Wyomingites that no message sent by the department will ever ask for your personal information.
The scam appears to involve text messages that give a “final notice” about a “license waiver validation.” The recipient of the message is directed to visit a third-party website in order to “avert a suspension.”
This website, according to the department, has been designed to look like a WYDOT website, so may appear to be a legitimate site.
According to WYDOT, those who have been affected by the scam have sometimes received reminder texts if they have not responded, which contain supposed deadlines.
WYDOT has stated that it is not sending – and will not send – text messages of this nature. Nor will the department seek personal information in this way.
The department recommends that, if you receive a text like this, you avoid opening the link and do not give your personal information. If you have any questions or concerned, you can call your local Driver Services office directly at 283-2557.
