June 30, 1921

Sundance ball players retrieved their long lost winning gait Sunday when they trimmed Hulett by a score of 13 to 4. As we said before, now watch ‘em go right down the line for the pennant.

Joe Jolley and Carl Todd arrived in Sundance early Sunday morning with 16 students of the Normal summer school en route to the Tower. After breakfast at Zane’s hotel the party proceeded to the famous landmark and had a splendid outing, returning to Sundance for a supper at the tourist camp grounds. The drivers report the road in exceptional condition, capable of 45 miles an hour at times.

June 27, 1946

Property and non-property owners of Sundance voted Tuesday of this week by an overwhelming majority to sell the Sundance municipal power plant to the Tri-County Electric Association for the sum of $35,000 and thus assured, farmers and towns people that in the not too distant future they will have power supplied throughout the three counties of Campbell, Weston and Crook.

W.E. (Ed) Mathews and Harry Reynolds, both ranchers of the Sundance vicinity announced their intentions this week of seeking the Republican nomination at the July 16 primaries for the office of county commissioner for a four year term. They will be opposed by Ralph Nickelson, Aladdin rancher, who is now serving a term as commissioner.

July 1, 1971

Gov. Stan Hathaway has called a special session of the Wyoming legislature starting July 7 to consider the federal constitutional amendment extending the vote to 18-year-olds in all elections. Earlier in the year, Hathaway has said he would call a special session when it appeared that Wyoming’s vote was necessary to assure approval of the amendment.

Ben B. Mahoney, a former Forest Service employee on the Bear Lodge district, retired from the Forest Service May 28 after 30 years. He entered the Forest Service in 1939 as lookout at Warren Peak. One of Mahoney’s contributions to fire control was his organization of the Sioux Indian fire fighting crews.
