Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
A Crook County woman has won a prestigious 2021 Spur Award from Western Writers of America for her poem “Baptism.” Patricia Frolander received the award award in Loveland, Colorado, at the WWA SPUR Awards dinner.
The poem, written in memory of her grandmother, is from her book Second Wind published by High Plains Press in 2020. “The book captures Wyoming ranch life in exquisite detail and may change the way the world thinks about women in ranching,” one reviewer wrote. Frolander ranches in Sundance, Wyoming, and this is her second book from High Plains Press.
Frolander, a member of Bear Lodge Writers, won several awards for her first book, Married Into It, including the Wrangler Award from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, the High Plains Book Award from the Billings Library, and the WILLA from Women Writing the West.
