Old Stoney and Sundance Square both open to the public
The City of Sundance is ready to unveil the latest addition to local recreation: Sundance Square, a new park next door to Old Stoney. Complete with splash pad, stage and concession stand, the location is intended as both a place for locals and visitors to hang out and a location for events such as farmers’ markets and concerts.
The grand opening of Sundance Square Park will take place the day after Old Stoney itself is officially revealed to the public. While the museum has been open for a few weeks and the gallery was unveiled just before Christmas, June 17 marks the grand event and will offer the opportunity for tours and celebration.
At 2 p.m., a Masonic cornerstone ceremony will take place, with a dedication for the Sundance Kid statue and a ribbon cutting one hour later. Meanwhile, enjoy music and appetizers.
The following day, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., a second celebration will take place.
“It should be a gala event,” says Kathy Lenz, Clerk Treasurer, noting that, “The city is giving away free ice cream.”
Food trucks, a farmers’ market and live music by Todd Kahler will also be included in the event, which will take place at the same time as the Crook County Country Junkin’ countywide yard sale. At 5 p.m., a ribbon cutting will be held for the new park.
