Thinclads take on Douglas meet

Hofland sisters push each other to personal bests

The Sundance track and field team was in Douglas this past week. A break from the snow and rain allowed for the Bulldogs to see some competition on Friday.

Two Bulldogs had performances good enough to earn them a prequalified spot in the state track and field meet. On the girls, side Brook Hofland threw for 116’ 6.5” in the discus, earning a second-place finish as well as prequalifying, while on the boys’ side, Hunter Skeens finished the 1600m race with a time of 4:52.09, earning himself another prequalified spot for the state meet.

When asked about his goals for the rest of the season Skeens stated that he would like to prequalify in a few more events and win at the state meet.

The Hofland sisters are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the throwing events as both continue to be at the top in the 2A. While the sibling rivalry pushes both to be better, Brook also commented on how they continue to encourage each other.

“In this last meet I finally threw further than my sister’s personal record, this drove her to do better as well,” she said.

With more track meets on the horizon, the sisters are looking to improve their own personal records as well as qualify for state and improve in their other events.

The Bulldogs will have two meets this week, as they compete in Belle Fourche on Tuesday and Wright on Friday.
