The Sundance Track team opened their 2021 season at Newcastle this past weekend. Going up against some great competition, the Bulldogs had many of their athletes place in the top five of their events.
On the girls’ side, sisters Bailey and Brook Hofland dominated the discus taking first and second place respectively throwing 99’4” and 98’01”. Bailey also competed in the shotput where she threw a 31’10.5”, putting her in fourth place.
Brook took a seventh-place finish in the 100m race. Teammate Rylie Marchant also placed in the top five as she took fourth place in the 400m race and finished sixth in the 200m race.
Hunter Skeens set the pace for the Bulldog boys in the 1600m race, taking first place with a time of 5:11 and placing third in the 800m race with a time of 2:17. The boys’ 1600m sprint medley made up of Jameson Fleenor, Keaton Mills, Ryder Downey and Hunter Skeens also fared well taking third place with a time of 4:08.
Other competitors included Ryder Downey who took fifth place in the 800m race, Keaton Mills, who placed third in the high jump, Josh Pridgeon who finished the shot put in seventh place, Bradon Davis who took a sixth-place finish in the discus, and Gavin Mollebrink.
“It was great to have a meet and we saw a lot of good competition from our athletes,” head coach Julie Cross stated.
The Bulldogs will next compete at the Buffalo invite on Thurs., Apr. 1.
