Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I appreciate the opportunity given by our local newspaper to express opinions in this venue.

Today, I’m addressing my opinion regarding an ad that appeared in last week’s newspaper as a result of two things, a national ad campaign which is now possible in part due to the changes occurring legislatively regarding perception of this topic and the subsequent changes in funding.

My opinion noted here is a continuation of my last opinion about the need for all of us to remain smart about topics in and around us in our community, our state and our nation.

The ad I am referring to is this one: Abortion is Essential Healthcare put out by NARAL Pro-Life Wyoming

So, I personally find this incredibly offensive and here is why. Words matter as do definitions. So bear with me as I don’t want to offend anyone’s intelligence. I just did a review so that I could ensure that I was on the right track, so I share this review with you.

Definition of abortion

1: the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus: such as

a: spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first 12 weeks of gestation; - compare miscarriage

b: induced expulsion of a human fetus

Definition of abortifacient

: an agent (such as a drug) that induces abortion

Definition of essential

1: of, relating to, or constituting essence: inherent

2a: of the utmost importance: basic, indispensable, necessary

Definition of health care (noun)

Definition of health care

: efforts made to maintain or restore physical, mental, or emotional well-being especially by trained and licensed professionals – usually hyphenated when used attributively

health-care providers

(Definition source: https://www.merriam-webster.com)

Using these definitions, I do feel this ad misused words as abortion is not essential. There are many other less dangerous ways to manage a women’s reproductive choices and help.

Natural family planning to avoid abortifacient medications that are labeled as “birth control” and adoption vs abortion are two very well researched management methods for women’s reproductive rights that have the least harmful side effects. By definition, death is the opposite of healthcare.

Again, please stay awake and educated on what is happening in our community, state and nation as we learn how to be good citizens active in the political processes that affect us and our loved ones now and in the future. Please note who put this ad in our paper.

National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws – NARAL Pro-Choice America uses numerous tactics to lobby for access to abortion and birth control in the U.S. as well as to promote paid parental leave and stop pregnancy discrimination. They track state and federal legislation, [10] endorse candidates, [11] and run advertising and education campaigns on these issues.

Essential is true health care not death disguised and the consequences that come with it relabeled.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

People have fought courageously through the years and sacrificed much so that all people are afforded life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As we recall the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, 55 million people (babies) have been killed and many mothers, fathers and other relatives wounded in the aftermath...

How does abortion contribute to life, liberty and happiness?

How is abortion “essential healthcare” when it takes the life of another person? This is not “healthcare” despite what some organizations would like us to believe!

We pray for all mothers, fathers and babies, especially those persons who suffer from post abortion grief. If you have been affected by abortion, there is real help, healing and care available for you!

Sincerely,

Jamie Farnsworth
