Winter festival cancelled

The Sundance Winter Festival for 2021 has been cancelled due to a lack of snow. The mild weather this area has experienced so far this winter season is unfortunately not helpful when it comes to building ski joring and bar stool courses.

Anticipating that there may not be enough snow on the ground still by the time the February 13 festival rolled around, organizers Steele Roping and the Sundance Downtown Business Association opted to make a final decision on February 1. With little ground cover on Monday and minimal snow on the forecast, Jamie Jessen of the Sundance Chamber of Commerce confirms that the decision has been made to cancel.

The decision is unrelated to the switchover to a new venue and organizers this year and therefore will not affect the 2022 festival. At this time, it is anticipated that next year’s Winterfest will move forward – although, once again, this will depend on the cooperation of Mother Nature.
