Senior Services triple meal delivery

For the month of December, a donation from the Powder River Energy Foundation was utilized to make meals for seniors around the county completely free of charge. Seniors were not asked to pay a suggested donation portion and simply needed to call Crook County Senior Services (CCSS) to request their meal.

Jenna Ellsbury, Director of CCSS, reports that this increased the number of meal requests in the run-up to Christmas by a significant amount.

“We have been very busy with the senior meals,” she says. “For the month of December we have almost tripled our number of meals served.”

Each meal was dietician-approved to provide complete nutrition. Meals were available either at one of the senior centers, by pick-up at the curbside or by direct delivery to a senior’s home.

On December 23, the final day of deliveries before Christmas, a special guest took over the task using the impressive storage capacity of his sleigh.

“Santa made everyone smile,” Ellsbury says.
